The Moving Wall Visits Alma
On Wednesday, June 20, 2007, Alma, Nebraska, hosted a very special event. The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall came to the City Park in Alma.
It was a wonderful experience for me. First because of the patriotism displayed. Secondly, I was proud of Alma for participating and all of the volunteers who brought about the event.
The Wall was escorted into Alma by about 50 motorcycle riders; most of them Veterans. The Fire Department and Law Enforcement personnel also formed part of the procession. When I saw them traveling down Main Street with American Flags waving, yes, it brought a lump to my throat and put a tear in my eye. It's called Pride; it's called, "Lest we forget."
The Moving Wall was on display 24 hours a day with it spotlighted at night.
The Statler Brothers in their album Farewell Concert sang a song about the Wall entitled, "More Than a Name on a Wall". You can hear the song at the Jukebox.
