Meet Little Cisco
Cisco came to live with my family when brother Joe was a very little boy. He was a mixed breed and loved everybody. His name came from a popular TV cowboy series, The Cisco Kid. Cisco didn't stay around very long. In the 1950's, dogs were rarely tied up or fenced in; Cisco was free to play. We always figured he followed somebody home and they kept him.
Good Old Moochie
I still get a lump in my throat when I remember little old Moochie. Where did the name Moochie come from? For some reason, Joe couldn't say Pooch. The next thing I knew, our little puppy's name was Moochie.
Moochie was part Water Spaniel. My favorite story about Moochie is when we took her on a family fishing trip. I think I talked Daddy into doing this. We went to the dam on the Blue River by Milford. Moochie was no sooner out of the car when she ran and jumped into the river. Mom panicked; I thought it was neat. I am sure Daddy was afraid he was going to be trying to rescue a dog being swept down the river rather than getting to fish. Moochie handled the current just fine and finally obeyed and was back on shore getting filthy as she rolled on the ground to dry off. Moochie didn't get to go fishing any more.
Moochie was with our family for quite awhile. She even had a litter of pups. They are featured in the next Kennel along with our Collie Victory.
Susie
Joe is holding Susie in the picture. We had taken her over to the reservoir where we went many times to play, and I had my camera for a puppy photo shoot.
Susie was a darling little Cocker Spaniel. Joe's very first Cocker Spaniel. My memory doesn't serve me well enough to remember exactly when she joined our family on C Street. I am inclined to believe it was after Cisco and Moochie. It seems I was about 12 or 13 and I came home from spending the night at a friends. Dad was sitting on the rocker with his head down. I didn't see Dad really sad very often. Then he told me what had happened to little Susie, she had gotten hit by a car.
