Singing In The Rain
Singing In the Rain is a 1952 musical comedy starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. In 2006, it was ranked First in American Film Institutes' 100 years of Musicals list.
Cousin Kathi and I loved to go to any of the musicals that were released in the 1950's. My favorite would be Singing in the Rain. Like Mary Jo and I, Kathi and I would play dress up and pretend to perform. We would sing and dance just like the stars--well not exactly. The most fun was when we were at Kathi's house because her mother (my Aunt Vera) had lots of formals. I don't think we were supposed to be wearing them, but we did. Her mom and dad would be gone, and I would be visiting. I remember my imagination letting me be grown up, beautiful, and a great star. What little girl doesn't have those dreams.
Honorable Mention
Show Boat was a 1951 musical starring Ava Gardner, Howard Keel, and Kathryn Grayson. I was not a big fan of these stars; however, I still enjoyed the movie.
An American in Paris was another 1951 musical starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, and Oscar Levant. Although I would consider myself a fan of Gene Kelly, in my estimation Leslie Caron couldn't compare to Debbie Reynolds .
