If I should look at you with a vacant stare
Or appear with uncombed hair.
Please Understand
When I get careless the way I dress
Or put a wrong name to a familiar face.
Please Understand
When I complain about meals but I clean my plate
Or show up for dinner too early or too late.
Please Understand
If I leave my apartment not properly dressed,
Or complain that I can't sleep or get my rest,
Please Understand.
"Take me home", a constant appeal
Then complain again about how I feel.
Please Understand
If I ask a question "from way out in left field,"
Consider the source; it's not a big deal.
Please Understand.
If I look at you with a silly grin,
Or have slobber on my chin,
Please Understand
I know you are annoyed when I cannot hear,
Makes me feel sad and I shed a tear.
Please Understand
The usual lament, "You haven't been here for awhile."
Just give me a hug and a big smile.
Please Understand. (You were here yesterday.)
