Bob's Mom and Dad

Elizabeth Harris was Bob's mother. She was born on January 29, 1910, and died on January 13, 2005. She was the daughter of Catherine (Bitter) and Jacob Harris

Bob's father George Robertus was born in Russia in 1907. I have no additional information about exact date or place. I have been told the Robertus families were from the Volga River region. His mother's name was Anna Marie (Heft) Robertus; father's first name unknown. I have been told his mother divorced his father and remarried.

George and Elizabeth were married on November 22, 1930.

Elizabeth was a homemaker. In addition she helped with the family finances by cleaning "the rich people's houses" to use her words. Elizabeth followed the saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" to perfection.

Bob's dad was a truck driver for part of Bob's youth. In later years he worked for a plumbing supply company.

Bob was raised on many of the German-Russian foods his grandmother had brought from Russia. Runzas, Dina Kuchen (coffee cake) Schnitzel Soup (fruit soup) Grebel (what we now call funnel cakes) and Filza (a sweet dressing with raisons) are some of them. I had to learn to make Runzas and the Filza because they were Bob's favorites.
