Nelly

Her name was actually Princess Prunella. The Princess let the rest of the family live with her.

A friend had a Persian cat who had a litter of kittens. The father was a Siamese. I took one look at those baby kittens and knew it was time to have a cat again. Bob said, "No." Nelly joined the family. She had the markings and personality of a Siamese but the long hair of the Persian. She was gorgeous; but, my grandma always said, "Pretty is as pretty does."

Nelly Cat Stories

At the time we got Nelly, we lived on West Rose Street. Mom and Dad lived next door and Dad had a very large garden adjoining my garden. Nelly was not allowed to wonder far, but she was allowed to go next door. Unfortunately she loved cantaloupe. As soon as one of the cantaloupes would start to ripen, Nelly would begin to help herself. Dad had to keep them covered with a small tub.

Dad also had a bird bath. Nelly would lay beside it and close her eyes. She was sure the birds didn't see her.

Suzy, our poodle, was already a part of the family when Nelly joined us. She would challenge Suzy and they would be on hind legs battling. Suzy established the fact that she was head of the pets of our house.

Nelly moved to Pleasant Dale with us and lived out her life span. At the old age of about 16 cat years, Nelly joined Suzy and Edith in Pet Heaven.
