The Very First Trixie
The picture would have been taken about the late 1930's early 1940's. She was my Grandmother Holtgrewe's dog. Mom always had to relay the story of how bossy I was when I was a little girl. At the age of about 3, I loved to put my hand on my hip and issue an order, "Trixie, get down in the basent." Ok, so I couldn't pronounce the word "basement."
My grandmother's dog Trixie is the reason I chose the name for my Sheltie. I had planned to own a Collie way back in the days of the movie and TV series "Lassie Come Home." However, it never worked out for me to name the Collie we did own Trixie. As an adult, I knew a Collie was too big a dog to be kept in the city. Then I learned about the Sheltie. She is not (contrary to what people assume) a small Collie. She is a Shetland Sheepdog and I named her Trixie.
