At the beginning of World War II, Uncle Foster was already in the Army. The remainder of my uncles either joined when they were old enough or were drafted: Uncle Maynard, Uncle Jess, Uncle George, and Uncle Dick. I do not have any picture of Uncle Jess in uniform.
Family Veterans of Korea
Theodore (Ted) Holtgrewe and Leonard Robertus
In the early 1950's around the time of the Korean War, my Uncle Ted joined the Navy. He became a jet pilot flying off carriers.
Bob's brother Leonard served in the Korean War and was stationed in Korea. He wrote home and told Bob to join the Reserves as soon as possible. He didn't want him to endure the Hell hole that was Korea. Thus Bob became a Navy Reservist.
My Sailor Boy
Bob joined the Navy Reserve on December 22, 1953, and was Honorably Discharged on December 6, 1961. He went through Boot Camp at the Great Lakes and on several two-week cruises which he still loves to talk about. He had to attend meetings every Wednesday night and sometimes he would stop by my house after the meeting. I sure did love seeing him in that Uniform. Bob's unit was never activated and he was discharged before Viet Nam.
