Dear Bob

You know I am going full steam ahead preparing to sell our house and leave Alma. It was Our town, Our life style, and Our home. I don't want to be here without you. So I will begin a new chapter in my life. I know that all of our memories will stay with me no matter where I am living.

It is so cold, the wind is blowing, and it is snowing. The weather reminded me that during all of my sorting, I ran across a poem in my collection which fits the season very well. I remembered how you used to love talking about your ice skating days. You were pretty darned good out there on the ice at Oak Lake or Sawyers Snell.

One day Cliff Hardesty gave you a newspaper clipping with this picture. Of course, I tried to make a copy so it isn't the best picture in the world, but you sure enjoyed it. I just had to write something and share it with you. As a poet, I am pretty weak, but it was for you and you smiled.

My poem dedicated to Bob.

The Ice Skater

I go drifting back in time and search the memories in my mind.

Skating all alone in the cold of the night
I whirled and twirled in the reflected moonlight.
As the moonbeams danced upon the ice, I raced across the frozen pond
The swish, swish of the blades cutting the ice the only sound.

My body was young: I skated with fine athletic ability
Backwards, leaps, turns, spins, my skates were part of me.
Faster, faster, leaping, turning, landing, what a thrill
I didn't notice anything around; I never felt the wind's sharp chill.

Life has moved swiftly by and I celebrate my golden years
Thanking God each day for all those memories I hold so dear.
